Softball Team Plays Two Close Games Against Northwest Missouri

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team and the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats played two close games on Saturday afternoon in St. Charles. The Lady Lions won the first game 3-2 and the Bearcats won game two 6-5 in extra innings.

It was a quick start for Lindenwood in the first game when leadoff hitter, Courtney Opich, hit a home run to start the bottom of the first. Northwest took the lead back in the third inning with a pair of runs. That lead did not last long. Lindenwood scored two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead. Those were the last runs of the game and the Lady Lions held on for the win.

Kendall Ryndak started for Lindenwood and earned her ninth win of the season.

Game two did not look good at the start for the home team.  The Bearcats started the game with a run in the first and four more in the second inning to take the early 5-0 lead.
The Lady Lions started to chip away at the lead in the fourth. Lindenwood scored two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to get within one. The Lady Lions would then be down to their last three outs in the seventh.

Courtney Kitson led off the innings with a line drive to third for the first out. Madeline Bohr was the next hitter and singled into right field. Hannah Braun would come into the game and pinch run. Her speed would come into play after Opich singled which moved Braun up to second.

Braun would then attempt to steal third and when the Northwest Missouri catcher attempted to throw her out there was nobody covering third. The throw would head into left field and Braun would head to the plate to tie the score.

Lindenwood could not take the lead in the seventh and the game headed into extra innings. After surrendering the lead Northwest Missouri State would answer back with a run in the eighth. That one run was all the Bearcats needed and held on for the win.

Opich and Ryndak each had two hits to lead the offense. Diedre Merli chipped in with a two run home run as well.

After the split the Lady Lions run their record to 17-22 overall and 10-12 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will take on Columbia College on Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles.
