Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team lost both games on Friday to Fort Hays State by scores of 7-3 and 6-1 respectively.
The Lions found themselves behind early in game one starting with a 3-0 deficit after the first inning. Fort Hays added a run in the second inning and again in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead after the first three frames.
Jerry Roam was able to get Lindenwood on the board as he crossed the plate on a bases loaded walk by
Mike Wilson in the top of the sixth inning. It seemed as if the Lions had a chance to put runs up, but could not hold the Tigers at bay.
Fort Hays scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 7-1 going into the last inning.
Kyle Leslie scored on a sacrifice fly by
Mike Failoni to cut in to the Fort Hays lead.
Marshall Vallandingham singled to right to bring in
Ben Coudret to make it a 7-3 game. The Lions could not add any more runs and fell 7-3 in game one.
Game two was a frustrating one for the Lions as they put up scored just one run despite their eight hits and the defense committed three errors.
Lindenwood allowed four runs in the fourth inning that put the Lions down 5-0 after the inning. The Lions finally got on the board in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by
Wade Rothermich to score Failoni. In the game the Lions left seven runners stranded and fell 6-1 in game two.
Failoni, Vallandingham, and Coudret each had three hits on the day including two doubles by Vallandingham.
Lindenwood falls to 15-26 on the year and now stand at 12-18 in the MIAA. The Lions will complete the four-game series with Fort Hays on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Hays, Kan.
