Lions Drop Both Games of Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Lindenwood baseball team lost both games of its Friday doubleheader to Emporia State by scores of 7-0 and 6-3 respectively in St. Charles, Mo.

Emporia State was in a hurry to put runs on the scoreboard and started in the first inning with two runs on two hits and one fielding error.  The Hornets added a run in the second with a solo homerun and another in the top of the fourth off a one-run double.

The game was broken wide open in the top of the fifth when Dean Long from Emporia hit a three-run homerun to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead.  The Lions could not find a way to put runs on the board and fell 7-0 in game one.

Game two started off in similar fashion with Emporia State scoring in the first inning.  The Hornets added their second run in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Kyle Kruger led the bottom of the third off with a single up the middle followed by a stolen base.  Kruger advanced to third on a Ben Coudret single and then scored on a Jerry Roam single.  Later in the inning Marshall Vallandingham hit an RBI single to drive in Roam and tying the game at 2-2 after three innings of play.

The Hornets responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth to regain the lead and put up two more runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2.  Ryan Light stared the bottom of the seventh with a double and was driven in by a Roam double to cut the deficit to 6-3 heading into the last two innings of play.  The Lions could not find a way to get any more runs across and fell 6-3 in the second game.

Lindenwood falls to 16-30 overall and are now 13-21 in the MIAA.  The Lions will complete their four-game series with Emporia State on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
