Pearman Tosses Complete-Game Shutout, Lions Split on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team finished its MIAA schedule with at Saturday doubleheader against Emporia State.  Senior Day started with the Lions falling 1-0 and a great pitching performance by Zac Pearman gave the Lions a 2-0 victory in game two.

Game one was scarce for runs as pitchers from both teams threw solid all game.  Dylan Terrell threw 5 1/3 strong innings allowing just one hit and struck out two batters.  Devin Breihan finished the sixth inning to keep the game tied a 0-0.  Emporia State began the seventh inning with a one-out double followed by back-to-back singles for the first run of the game.  The Lions could not produce much offense in the game and fell 1-0 in game one.

Game two started in similar fashion as the first, but the Lions changed that in the bottom of the third inning.  Ben Coudret reached base on a two-out double down the left field line.  Jerry Roam put the Lions on the board with a double down the right field line to drive in Coudret and give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead after the first three frames.

The Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth after Kyle Kruger reached base on a single.  Kruger stole second and scored on a Coudret double down the right field line to give Lindenwood a 2-0 advantage.  Senior pitcher Pearman was tough in the top of the sixth after allowing two Emporia State runners on base with no outs.  Pearman registered three consecutive fly outs to get out of the inning and keep the Lions ahead by two runs.

Eddie Sutton started at shortstop and helped keep the Lions in the game by flashing the leather and covering a lot of turf.  Sutton finished the game with five putouts and one assist.  Pearman finished the game going nine innings, allowing just six hits and struck out three batters en route to his 28th career victory.

After the split Lindenwood now stands at 17-31 and finished 14-22 in the MIAA.  The Lions will play their final game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and host Lindenwood-Belleville at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
