Lady Lions Beat Fort Hays But Fall to Emporia State

Box Score 1 The MIAA Tournament ended for the Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon in Overland Park, Kan. The Lady Lions won the first game of the day 5-4 against the Fort Hays State Tigers but then fell 2-0 to the No. 1 seed Emporia State Hornets.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first two innings. It wasn't until the fifth inning when Lindenwood's offense woke up.

The Lady Lions scored five runs on four hits and was helped by a Fort Hays error. The big hit was a two RBI single by Diedre Merli. The Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough as Lindenwood held on for the win.

The final game of the tournament turned out to be a loss to the Emporia State Hornets. The only two runs of the game came in the third inning when Emporia State scored two runs.

Lindenwood got six hits but could not bring across any runs. The Hornets scattered 10 hits over seven innings.

The Lady Lions finish the 2014 season with an overall record of 22-29.
