Box Score The Lindenwood Lady Lions field hockey team earned its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Centre College in Louisville, Ky.
Lindenwood jumped out to an early lead with two goals early in the first half but Centre managed to get one goal in before the end of the half. Lindenwood came out in the second half firing on all cylinders, scoring two goals in the first 11 and half minutes. The defense stepped up as well not allowing a goal for the final 35 minutes.
Ashton Lichvar and
Greta Banholzer each scored a goal late in the game to seal Lindenwood's first victory of the season.
Plenty of Lady Lions took part in the scoring barrage, but leading the charge with two goals and an assist was Banholzer.
Tara Robben also chipped in with a goal and two assists. On the defensive side,
Victoria Gil had seven saves of the eight shots on goal.
With the win the Lady Lions are now 1-3 on the season. Lindenwood looks to carry its momentum into this week with two non-conference away games against Pennsylvania opponents in Slippery Rock University on Saturday, September 20th and Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 21st.Â
