Box Score Lindenwood field hockey got its second win of the season, and its first against a ranked opponent when it defeated No. 10 Slippery Rock University by a score of 2-1.
The Lady Lions came out and gave up the first goal just four minutes into the game. The deficit was only temporary. Sixteen minutes into the game,
Greta Banholzer recorded her third goal of the season on an assist from
Amelia Rodriguez. The score stayed tied until the end of the half. To open the second half, Banholzer scored her second goal on an assist from
Ashton Lichvar. The Lady Lions didn't score the rest of the game, but they didn't allow another goal either and got their second win of the season.
The Lady Lions had a season high in both shots with 13 and shots on goal with 11. This was dominant to their counterpart Slippery Rock who had six shots total, all of which came in the first half. The stats looked very similar in corners, with Lindenwood starting from the corner 11 times against just five from Slippery Rock. Goalie
Victoria Gil had four saves in the game.Â
After one of the biggest victories in Lady Lions history, the win puts their record at 2-3. Coming up next for Lindenwood is a game Sept. 21st against Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Penn.
