The Lindenwood men's basketball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped earlier this week but the Lions got right back on track Saturday afternoon with a 66-57 win over the Missouri Western Griffons.
Â
Things started off quickly for the Lions with a 24-14 run to lead by 10. Missouri Western battled back to cut the lead to five with just a few minutes left in the opening half. But a late run by the Lions gave the home team an eight-point cushion heading into the locker room.
Â
Unfortunately, for Lindenwood the Griffons woke up at the half and started the second half on fire. Missouri Western went on a 12-2 run to start the half all of a sudden led by four.
Â
Over the next four minutes the two teams would trade the lead back-and-forth. At the 11:14 mark of the second half the Lions took control. A three-point bucket from
Nick Van Osdale started the run which was capped off by back-to-back threes from
Chanse Creekmur. The run put the Lions up by 11.
Â
Missouri Western would get within four with just over three-minutes to play but that was as close as they would get. The Lions would ice the game from the charity stripe on won by nine.
Â
The Lions shot 50 percent from the field and from the three-point line. Lindenwood also won the rebounding battle 33-31 but did turn the ball over 11 times.
Â
Van Osdale led the way for the Lions scoring 15 points. Creekmur was second on the team with 14 points while
Sam Mader recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Â
The win improved the Lions to 14-7 overall and 9-3 in MIAA play. Up next Lindenwood will welcome the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Wednesday night.Â
