Box Score The Lindenwood field hockey team defeated the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans 7-0 on Sunday afternoon from Sparkill, N.Y.
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, as
Greta Banholzer provided what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Karlie Quinn was credited with the assist, the first of three she would record in the contest. Just over two minutes later at the 7:35 mark of the first-half,
Chloe Bell notched her fifth goal of the season, giving the Lady Lions a 2-0 advantage. Lindenwood would pour in three more goals before halftime, with Banholzer,
Victoria Buysschaert, and
Nicole Johnston tallying the goals. The Lady Lions ended the first-half with a lead of 5-0.
The Lady Lions continued their dominance throughout the second-half, picking up two more goals. In the 53rd minute, Buysschaert scored her second-goal of the afternoon, growing the Lady Lions lead to six goals.
Tara Robben scored at the 64:14 mark of the second-half, making the score 7-0 in favor of Lindenwood. The Lady Lions would hold that lead until the final whistle.
In net for the Lady Lions,
Victoria Gill started and played the opening 19:59 before being replaced by
Skylar Starbeck for the remaining 50:01. Gill did not face any shots, while Starbeck turned aside both shots sent her way. The Lady Lions scored a season-high seven goals, and their most since defeating Newberry College 8-1 on November 16th, 2014. In the end, Lindenwood held the edge in shots (16-3), shots on goal (14-2), and penalty corners (9-2).
With the win, Lindenwood improves its season record to 6-5. With the loss, St. Thomas Aquinas moves to 1-10 on the season. The Lady Lions will travel to Oakdale, N.Y. tomorrow afternoon to take on the Dowling College Golden Lions at 12 p.m.
