Lions Men's Basketball Has Home Opener On Wednesday

Wednesday's Game At A Glance
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team has its home opener on Wednesday night when it hosts Maryville at 7 p.m. The game will be the first for first-year head coach Lance Randall at Hyland Arena.

• The Lions enter the game with a 2-0 overall record after defeating Southwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene last weekend at the Southwestern Oklahoma State Classic. In the season opener against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Lindenwood took a seven-point lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half en route to a 77-68 victory. Against Southern Nazarene, the Lions trailed by 18 with less than 10 minutes to go, but stormed back for an 86-79 win.

• Lindenwood has won double-figure games at Hyland Arena in every season since it moved to the NCAA Division II level. Over the last four years, the Lions are 44-13 at home, including a 12-2 mark last season.

• Maryville enters play this week with a 0-2 record on the season. The Saints hosted a tournament last weekend and fell to Ohio Dominican (84-69) and Trevecca Nazarene (89-86).

• Maryville leads the all-time series with Lindenwood by a 23-7 record. Since both teams moved to the NCAA Division II level, the Saints have a 2-1 edge after victories in 2013 and 2014.

Lindenwood Notes
• Cory Arentsen was named the MIAA co-Player of the Week on Monday after his performance in the Southwestern Oklahoma State Classic. He averaged 27.0 points and 7.5 rebounds a game, and shot 67.7 percent from the field, and seven-of-10 from three-point range. Arentsen was especially impressive down the stretch of the Southern Nazarene, scoring 17 points in the final 9:30 of the game.

• Brad Newman put up 16.5 points a game in his first two games as a Lion, and had a team-high six assists. He also led the team at the free-throw line, going a team-high 13 times and making 11.

• Stanislas Heili averaged a double-double in his first weekend as a Lion, collecting 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. He recorded a double-double against Southwestern Oklahoma State, and just missed a double-double against Southern Nazarene by a single point.

• Sam Mader displayed a new weapon over the weekend with his three-point shooting. Mader was just one-of-five beyond the arc in his first two seasons as a Lion, but hit four-of-four last week.

• Lindenwood shot a league-best 54.5 percent from the field last weekend. The starting five for the Lions were even better, shooting 62.1 percent from the field.

• The Lions are also first in the MIAA with a .469 three-point percentage. Only three other MIAA programs are shooting above 40 percent. Cory Arentsen leads the team's three-point shooting by making seven-of-10.

• Lindenwood is winning the MIAA triple-crown in shooting, after also being first in free-throw percentage with a .813 mark. The team is nine-of-12 in the final two minutes of games.

• The Lions have a +4 rebounding margin on the season. Stanislas Heili leads the team with 21 rebounds, and he is grabbing nearly 30 percent of the rebounds on the defensive end. Zachary Biggs has been the top rebounder off the bench, averaging a team-high 14.4 rebounds per 40 minutes of playing time.

• Lindenwood is second in the MIAA with four blocks per game. Stanislas Heili and Sam Mader have all eight of the Lions' blocks this season.

• The Lions are averaging 36.0 points in the paint this season, including have 40 against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Lindenwood is allowing 20.0 points in the paint per game.

• MIAA programs are currently 23-8 in non-conference action this season, and seven teams are still undefeated in 2014-15.

A Look At Maryville
• Maryville went 12-17 overall last season, including a 6-12 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Saints finished fifth in the GLVC West Division.

• The Saints are shooting 47.4 percent from the field this year, but they are allowing opponents to shoot 55.5 percent.

• Marvin Grant-Clark is averaing a team-high 18.0 points a game. He has made five three-pointers, and is 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Max Mischkulnig and Forrester Sims are also averaging double-figure points.

• Max Mischkulnig is the team's leader down low, avearging 5.5 rebounds a game and having three blocks. Forrester Sims is averaging 4.0 rebounds and shooting 56.3 percent from the field.
