The Lindenwood women's hockey team dropped the second game of a two-game set against the Wisconsin Badgers, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon from Madison, Wis.
For the second consecutive game, the Badgers were able to breakthrough early in the first period with the first goal of the game. Just 6:28 into the opening period, Emily Clark gave Wisconsin a 1-0 edge. The Lady Lions were able to keep the Badgers at bay for the remainder of the period, heading into the intermission down 1-0.
Wisconsin poured in two goals during the second period, as Sarah Nurse and Sophia Shaver each lit the lamp. The goals came at 7:04 and 14:03 marks of the period, respectively, and sent the teams to the locker room with the score 3-0 in favor of the Badgers.
Nurse scored once more in the third period, helping the Badgers grow their lead to the eventual final of 4-0.
Jolene deBruyn made her fourth start of the season in net for the Lady Lions, turning in 54 saves while allowing the four goals against.
Shara Jasper led the Lady Lions with three shots on goal, followed by
Sarah Bobrowski,
Shannon Morris-Reade, and
Britannia Gillanders who each had two. For the game, Wisconsin held the advantage in shots 58-11. On special teams, the Lindenwood penalty kill had another successful afternoon, killing off all five of the penalties against. The Lady Lion power play failed to capitalize on its only opportunity.
With the loss, the Lady Lions move their record to 3-8-2. Following the victory, the Badgers move their record to 14-0-0. Lindenwood will return home to Wentzville, Mo. to play host to St. Cloud State on Saturday and Sunday, for a pair of non-conference matchups from the Lindenwood Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. on each day.
