The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell in a big hole on Friday night in Syracuse, N.Y. It was able to dig out though and pick up an important tie by a 4-4 margin against the Syracuse Orange.
Syracuse landed the first punches in the game as it scored four times in the first 15:20 of the contest, and it went into the locker room after one period with a 4-0 lead.
It kept that lead until midway through the second period when Lindenwood scored twice in just over a two-minute span.
Shara Jasper had the first goal and
Carrie Atkinson had the second, both assisted by Constance.
Katie Erickson also assisted on Jasper's score.
In the third period,
Lyndsay Kirkham had a power-play goal at the 4:47 mark, with assists from Jasper and Erickson. Constance then had her third assist of the game when she set up Brittania Gillander's game-tying goal with just over nine minutes remaining. Neither team could score the rest of regulation or the five-minute overtime period.
Syracuse finished the game with a 41-23 advantage in shots. The Orange were just one-of-eight on the power play, compared to one-of-four for the Lady Lions.
After a shaky first period, goalie
Nicole Hensley rebounded as she made 32 saves after that point and did not allow another goal.
Katie Nokelby had a team-high four blocks on the night. Seven players,
Carrie Atkinson,
Emily Gunderson, Jasper,
Katie Erickson,
Brooke Peden,
Xylia Lang, and Constance, finished with a positive plus/minus.
Lindenwood moves to 9-17-2 on the season and 6-9-2 in CHA play. The Lady Lions and the Orange will meet again on Saturday afternoon to close out their regular season series.
