Women's water polo won all four games it played at the Wolverine Invitational, March 14-15 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Lady Lions started with a solid 10-6 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. Marlee Lyons scored twice and Michal Andreatta had three goals to lead the Lindenwood charge. Dani Rust was strong in goal to keep the Red Hawks offense under control.
The second contest of the day for the Lady Lions turned into a physical one, with Lindenwood taking an 8-7 win in overtime over Grand Valley State. Heather Rosson scored two key goals to lead the Lady Lions.
The biggest victory of the weekend came on Sunday against number one ranked Michigan. Lindenwood topped the Wolverines 11-6. Andreatta led the offense with five goals while Deanna Mendoza scored a trio of times for the Lady Lions. Marlee Lyons earned the "hardhat" award as she played with a severely injured finger sustained in the previous game.
In the final match of the day, Lindenwood defeated the Michigan B squad 7-1. The Lady Lions displayed great team defense to stifle the Wolverines throughout the contest.
With the four wins, Lindenwood improved to 11-1 overall. After a weekend off, the Lady Lions will return to action on the road at the Irish Invitational March 28-29. All games will be played at Rolf's Aquatic Center in South Bend, Ind.
