For the first time since 2011, the cheerleading team captured a national title at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships concluded Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla.Â
Lindenwood won the Large Coed Cheer Division II crown with a score of 91.73, edging Columbus State by just 0.38. After advancing through the preliminaries in first place, the team performed a solid routine, earning the highest marks for baskets, pyramids, and tumbling. Mistakes were minimized with less than a point of deductions. Â
For the second year in a row, Lindenwood qualified three different squads into final rounds. The Small Coed team was fourth after preliminary Division II competition, but lost several points to deductions, ultimately finishing with a score of 87.48 for fifth place. The All Girl team faced a loaded division with 22 different squads in preliminaries, but emerged in seventh place. The Lady Lions earned a final round score of 80.08 to remain in seventh. Â
