The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell to the Robert Morris Colonials 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon from the 84 Lumber Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Both teams spent the opening 18:07 of the first-period searching for the game's first goal. It was at that moment while on the power-play, the Colonials struck first with a Maeve Garvey goal. Robert Morris struck again 1:24 later also on the power-play, this time with the goal being scores by Mikela Lowater. The Colonials would hold the 2-0 edge heading into the first-period intermission. The Lady Lions were outshot for the period by a total of 12-9.
Lindenwood would cut into the Robert Morris lead at the 11:49 mark on the strength of a
Kaitlyn Davidson goal. For Davidson, the goal was the first of her collegiate career, with the assists being credited to
Sarah Bobrowski and
Xylia Lang. The Lady Lions would pull even while on the power-play 3:12 after the Davidson goal.
Carrie Atkinson was credited with the goal, her third score of the season, while Bobrowski tallied the helper, her team-leading 14th. Lindenwood outshot Robert Morris 21-8 during the second-period of play, which would come to a close with the score deadlocked at 2-2.
Neither team would find the back of the net during the third-period of play as the game headed to a five-minute overtime period. Robert Morris would prevail with the game-winning goal 1:36 into overtime, winning the game by a final score of 3-2.
In goal for Lindenwood
Nicole Hensley faced 30 shots, while making 27 saves. The Lady Lions would finish the game outshooting the Colonials by a total of 38-30. Bobrowski led the way for Lindenwood in the shot category with nine shots, and
Shara Jasper was second on the team with five shots on goal. The Lady Lion power-play unit went 1-6 on its opportunities, while the penalty-kill unit successfully killed-off four of its six chances.
The Lady Lions move their season record to 6-18-4 and 3-7-4 in conference play following the overtime defeat. With the victory, the Colonials improve their season record to 14-9-5 and 6-4-4 from within the CHA. The Lady Lions will return home to the Lindenwood Ice Arena for a two-game series with the RIT Tigers on February 5-6. The series will be the final two regular season home games for the Lady Lions.
