Bobrowski Scores Twice as Women’s Hockey Falls 3-2

The Lindenwood women's hockey team attempted a late comeback against the RIT Tigers, but fell by a final score of 3-2 on Friday evening in a CHA clash from the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.

The Tigers would strike first, scoring 9:06 into the opening period on a Carly Payerl goal, her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Lindenwood would even up the score 1-1 at the 15:12 mark of the period, as Sarah Bobrowski tallied her sixth score of the season. Shara Jasper picked up the assist on the play, her 10th helper of the season. RIT would regain the lead with 43 seconds remaining in the period, as Maddie Grisko found the back of the net, her first goal of the season. The Tigers would carry the 2-1 advantage into the first-period intermission, despite the Lady Lions holding the edge in shots 13-7.

RIT would record the lone goal during the second period of play as Darcy Henderson lit the lamp for the Tigers at the 11:13 mark of the period. Lindenwood again outshot RIT for the period by a total of 14-11, but headed to the locker rooms down by a score of 3-1 after two periods of play.

The third-period of play saw both teams put forth strong defensive efforts. RIT survived two power plays while Lindenwood escaped three. With time ticking down, Hensley exited the ice for a sixth player to gain the offensive edge, and the move paid off. Bobrowski found the puck after Shannon Morris-Reade passed to the right which led to Bobrowski burying her second goal of the day in the top-right corner of the net. Lindenwood could not score again once they were called for a tripping penalty, and the game ended with a final score of 3-2.

The Lady Lions held the edge in shot-attempts by 11, shooting a total of 38 times. The Tigers blocked 15 of those shots while the Lady Lions blocked 11 of the Tigers' 27 shots. Nicole Hensley picked up 24 total saves for the game, while allowing the three goals against.

With the loss, the Lady Lions move their season record to 6-19-4 and 3-8-4 in conference play. Following the victory, the Tigers improve their season record to 7-21-1 and 3-11-1 from within the CHA. The two teams will return to action in Wentzville tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. for Lindenwood's regular season home finale. Prior to puck drop there will be a pregame ceremony to honor the 2016 women's hockey senior class.
