Six Different Players Score In Field Hockey's 6-1 Win Over Newberry

The Lindenwood field hockey team score six-unanswered goals on Sunday afternoon to defeat Newberry 6-1 in Newberry, S.C.

The Lady Lions had eight different players total points during the 6-1 triumph. Midway through the first half, Karlie Quinn put the visitors on the board with her fifth score of the season. Noor Fons set up the goal on a cross into the circle before Quinn finished on the left side.

Already with a 1-0 lead, Victoria Buysschaert increased the Lindenwood lead less than three minutes later on a poke shot in the middle of a scramble in front of the net. Nicole Johnston added on another score for the Lady Lions nine minutes before halftime. Johnston shot from just inside the circle to beat the Newberry goalie for her fourth goal of the season.

Lindenwood failed to let up in the second half, already with a 3-0 lead. Tara Robben followed up her own shot to score her resounding 15th goal of the season, and is in the top-five in the country with 1.00 goals per game and third in the country with her season total.

Maroussia Buysschaert added onto the Lindenwood lead nearly 54 minutes into the game, deflecting it past the goalie for her fourth tally of 2016. Ten minutes later, Savannah Motley set up Shelby Easley to make the score 6-0 with less than seven minutes remaining.

With less than a minute remaining, Newberry got on the board after Skylar Starbeck initially made a save, but did not control the rebound before the Wolves put it in the back of the net.

The victory is Lindenwood's 12th victory of the season, adding onto the school record for wins in a season by the field hockey team. Robben led the team with three shots on goal, while Bridget Hoogendijk had two. Starbeck made four saves in net.

The Lady Lions improve to 12-3 with two games remaining on the regular-season schedule. Lindenwood hosts Concordia on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. start time scheduled.
