Men's Basketball Hosts Truman For Home Opener On Wednesday Night

Wednesday's Game At A Glance
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team has its home opener on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. game against Truman State. The two teams were conference opponents in the MIAA for one year in 2012-13, before the Bulldogs moved to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

• Lindenwood opened up the season last weekend at the MIAA/NSIC Classic in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The Lions went 2-0 at the event with wins over Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth.

• Truman is also 2-0 on the season with a pair of wins at the Don Callan Classic in Cedarville, Ohio. The Bulldogs picked up victories over Cedarville and Trevecca Nazarene.

• Lindenwood and Truman State are tied 2-2 in the all-time series. The Bulldogs won the first two meetings in the early 1980s. During the 2012-13 season, Lindenwood swept a pair of conference contests by scores of 96-82 and 81-71. The Lions are 1-0 against the Bulldogs at Hyland Arena.

• The contest will feature two teams with different strengths. Lindenwood's defense is allowing just 58.0 points a game this season, and allowed 65.4 points a contest last season. Truman's offense is averaging 87.0 points a game this year, and it put up 82.4 points a year ago.

Lindenwood Notes
• Lindenwood won its season opener by a 62-44 margin over Bemidji State. The Lions led by 10 at halftime and pulled away early in the second half. Dominique Dobbs had a double-double in his first collegiate game with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

• The Lions defeated Minnesota Duluth by a 78-72 score in the second game of the MIAA/NSIC Classic. The game was tied with five minutes left but a 7-0 run gave the Lions the lead for good. Dominique Dobbs had four points in the final minute to clinch the win. Brenon Larson-Gulsvig had a game-high 22 points.

• Lindenwood had a balanced offensive attack last week with four players averaging double-figure points. Last season, just two Lions finished the season with over 10 points a game. LJ McIntosh was the only player to score double-figures in both games with 11 versus Bemidji State and 12 against Minnesota Duluth.

• Lindenwood outrebounded its opponents in both contests last week. Since Lance Randall took over coaching duties for the Lions, they have won the rebounding battle in 28 of the 32 games.

• Seventy remains a key number for the Lions. They are 12-3 the last two years when scoring that amount, and 15-9 when holding opponents under it.

• True freshman Dominique Dobbs had a big debut for the Lions. The Hazelwood Central graduate averaged 13.5 points and 9.0 rebounds a game. He shot 53.3 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line.

• Another freshman, Brenon Larson-Gulsvig also had an impressive weekend. Larson-Gulsvig led the team in scoring with 14.5 points, including his first 20-point game against Minnesota Duluth. He hit six three pointers and shot 46.2 percent from the field.

• Lindenwood's three returners from last year all contributed. LJ McIntosh and Chandler Diekvoss both averaged double-figure points for the two games. Diekvoss also pulled down five boards a contest. Rayko Dundalov had eight points versus Minnesota Duluth, an averaged 4.0 rebounds a game.

• Adam Pohlman had four steals in the Minnesota Duluth game. It was the most by a Lion since Darris Smith had five against Northwest Missouri during the 2013-14 season.

• The 44 points allowed in the season opener were the fewest allowed by the team in a game since giving up 44 against Baker in the 2009-10 season.

• Lindenwood averaged 16.0 points off turnovers last weekend. That mark is an improvement of over seven points from last year's total. The Lions forced 14.0 turnovers a game, up from 8.8 turnovers a game last season.

• Freshmen and sophomores accounted for 75 percent of the team's points and 60.1 percent of the team's rebounds in the first two games.

• Lindenwood travels to Vancouver, British Columbia later this week for four contests. The trip starts with back-to-back games against Simon Fraser on Friday and Saturday.

A Look At Truman
• Truman has recorded three straight 20-win seasons, including having a 21-9 record last season. The Bulldogs return two all-conference players, and two players on last year's GLVC all-defensive team.

• Cory Myers was a first-team all-GLVC and GLVC all-defensive team member last year. This season, he is averaging 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists a game.

• Nathan Messer leads the Bulldogs with 18.5 points a game. Jake Velky (15.5), Myers, and Green (10.0) are also in double-figures.

• Truman is hitting 13.0 three-pointers a game this season, and is shooting 47.3 percent from beyond the arc. Messer and Velky are a combined 16-of-33 from three-point range.
