Men's Basketball Hosts MIAA Leader On Saturday Afternoon

Saturday's Game At A Glance
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team puts a six-game overall winning streak and five-game home winning streak on the line on Saturday against the current No. 1 team in the MIAA. Lindenwood takes on Missouri Southern in a 3:30 p.m. contest at Hyland Arena.
 
• Lindenwood won its conference opener on Thursday night with an 89-83 victory over Pittsburg State. The Lions trailed late, but Brenon Larson-Gulsvig scored the final seven points of the contest, including a three-pointer that gave the Lions the lead for good with 2:10 remaining.
 
• Missouri Southern is 3-0 in conference play after picking up a 91-82 win over Lincoln on Thursday night. The victory was the third straight wins for the Lions.
 
• The all-time series between the two teams is tied at three wins apiece, and Lindenwood leads 3-1 in games played in Hyland Arena. Last year, Cory Arentsen hit a jumper with eight seconds remaining to give Lindenwood a 69-68 win over Missouri Southern.
 
• Missouri Southern comes into the game with the highest scoring team in the MIAA, averaging 88.3 points a game. Lindenwood ranks in the top four in the conference in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
 
Lindenwood Notes
• Lindenwood won the rebounding battle against Pittsburg State by 12 boards, its third game this year with a double-figure advantage in rebounding. The Lions have won or tied the rebounding battle in every game this season but one.
 
• Dominique Dobbs is the first person in NCAA Division II to reach seven double-doubles this season. He has four straight double-doubles, and is averaging 17.3 points and 12.0 rebounds a game during that streak.
 
• Lindenwood has gotten to the free-throw line more than its opponent in every game but one.
 
• Lindenwood has had three individual performances this year of a player making five or more three-pointers in a game. Two of those were by LJ McIntosh, including five makes on Monday against Brescia. The other was Brenon Larson-Gulsvig who knocked down five against Minnesota Duluth. McIntosh and Larson-Gulsvig both made four three-pointers in the MIAA opener versus Pittsburg State.
 
• Chandler Diekvoss has led the team in scoring for five straight contests. In that span, he is averaging 24.4 points a game, and is shooting 63.0 percent from the field and 82.8 percent from the free-throw line. He has scored at least 20 points in each game.

• In the national rankings, through Dec. 5, the Lions rank among the top 25 percent of the nation in scoring offense and scoring defense. Lindenwood was 45th in scoring defense, 71st in scoring offense, and 24th in scoring margin.
 
• Also in the national rankings, Lindenwood was 16th in fewest turnovers per game with 10.9 a contest. The Lions have only turned it over more than 12 times in a game once this season.
 
• Lindenwood is in the top-25 nationally by making 77.7 percent of its free-throw attempts. Brenon Larson-Gulsvig is 27th nationally with a 91.9 mark.
 
• True freshman Dominique Dobbs has shot 60 percent of better from the field in six of the last seven games, including 70 percent or better in two contests.
 
• Adam Pohlman is averaging 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals a contest. He has at least one steal in every game this season, and at least one assist in every game but one.
 
• The Lions have one all-conference performer on the team -- Bakari Triggs who was all-MIAA in football. Since joining the roster, he is averaging 12.0 minutes a game and is putting up 1.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.7 assist, and 0.7 steal a game.
 
A Look At The Lions
• Missouri Southern has won three straight, with all three contests being conference showdowns against Fort Hays State, Nebraska-Kearney, and Lincoln.
 
• Missouri Southern ranks sixth nationally in turnover margin with a +7.3 mark. It is forcing nearly 19 turnovers a game, while only turning the ball over 11.6 times a contest.
 
• CJ Carr is one of the top scorers in the conference, averaging 23.0 points a game. Elyjah Clark is second on the team with a 15.7 average, and JJ Cratit is putting up 14.0 points. Those three players have hit a combined 69 three-pointers.
 
• LJ Ross and Lawrence Brown are both averaging over seven rebounds a game. They have a combined 40 offensive rebounds on the season.
