Men's Basketball Starts Important Road Trip At Fort Hays State

Thursday's Game At A Glance
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team starts its biggest road trip since joining the NCAA on Thursday night with a 7:30 p.m. game at Fort Hays State. The Lions look to add to their resume for the NCAA Tournament with a road win at one of the toughest venues in the MIAA.

• The Lions are looking to snap a three-game losing streak, including a 59-57 loss to Washburn last Saturday. That loss dropped the team to 15-9 on the season, and it is tied for second in the MIAA with an 11-7 mark.

• Fort Hays State is 16-8 overall and 10-8 in the MIAA, one game behind the Lions. The Tigers are 13-2 at home this season, and has won eight straight on their home floor. Fort Hays State has won just three road games, including a big 85-82 win over Missouri Southern last Saturday.

• Lindenwood enters the game with the top defense in the MIAA, allowing 65.2 points a game and holding opposing teams to 40.5 percent shooting from the field. The Tigers are the top shooting team in the MIAA, making 49.4 percent of their shots from the field and 44.3 percent from three-point range.

• Lindenwood is 3-1 all-time against the Tigers, and 0-1 in Hays, Kan. Earlier this season in St. Charles, the Lions held Fort Hays State to just 34.5 percent shooting in a 68-49 Lindenwood victory.

Lindenwood Notes
• Lindenwood leads the MIAA in scoring defense (65.2), field-goal percentage defense (.405), and blocks (5.17). It is eighth in NCAA Division II in scoring defense, 19th in field-goal percentage defense, and seventh in blocks.

• Lindenwood also ranks in the top-25 nationally for fewest fouls (9th) and free-throw percentage (21st). It is also 38th in rebounding margin.

• The Lions are 15-4 this season when making more free throws than its opposition, and 13-5 when attempting more free throws. In the last two games, however, the team has not attempted a free throw in the final 10 minutes of the game.

• Lindenwood is 11-3 in MIAA games when shooting 40 percent or better from the field, and 0-4 when shooting below that mark. It is 9-3 when holding opponents below 40 percent shooting, and 2-4 when they shoot above that mark.

• The Lions are 8-4 at home this season, and 6-5 in true road games. Lindenwood has been slightly better defensively on the road, allowing 64.2 points and holding opponents to 38.9 percent shooting from the field. The Lions are allowing nearly one three-pointer a game more on the road, and opponents are also shooting four more free throws a game against the Lions when they are on the road.

• Cory Arentsen joined Lindenwood's 1,000-point club last Saturday. He is the tenth member of that club, and just the second to accomplish it while playing just two seasons at the school.

• Over the last two games, Cory Arentsen is averaging 39.5 points a game. He is shooting 54 percent from the field and 93.8 percent from the free-throw line in those games. He has made 12 three-pointers and is shooting 54.5 percent from beyond the arc.

• Stanislas Heili is 14th in NCAA Division II with 2.58 blocks a game. Cory Arentsen is 19th in points per game (23.3) and ninth in free-throw percentage (90.2).

• Brad Newman has scored in double-figures in four out of the last five games. In that span, he is averaging 14.6 points a contest. On the season, Newman has 13 double-figure scoring games.

• Lindenwood has three players ranked in the top 15 in the MIAA in rebounding average. Stanislas Heili is fourth with 8.1 rebounds a game, Zachary Biggs is tenth with 6.1 boards a contest, and Cory Arentsen is 15th with 5.7 rebounds a game.

A Look At Fort Hays State
• Fort Hays State is fourth in the MIAA with 78.0 points a game, and it leads the league in field-goal percentage and three-point field-goal percentage. Defensively, it is sixth in scoring defense, allowing 74.5 points a game.

• Four Tigers are scoring over 10 points a game, led by Rob Davis with 17.7 points a contest. Dom Samac is putting up 14.6 points a game, Craig Nicholson is averaging 11.3 points a contest, and Jake Stoppel is averaging 11.0 points. All of those players except Nicholson are shooting over 50 percent.

• Craig Nicholson is the MIAA leader with 5.0 assists a game, and a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.

• Dom Samac leads the team with 7.5 rebounds a contest.
