Women's Water Polo

Short Handed Squad Get One Win in Conference Crossover

Women's water polo was missing several key players, but still managed one win against two losses at the Midwest Division Conference Crossover February 13-14 at the St. Louis University Natatorium in St. Louis, Mo.

In the opening game of the weekend for the Lady Lions on Saturday, Notre Dame earned a 14-1 victory, but Lindenwood rebounded for an 11-4 win over Miami (Ohio) later in the day.  The Lady Lions played one game on Sunday and fell to Grand Valley State 10-3.

Dani Rust led the defense with outstanding goaltending, making 25 saves overall, including the denial of a five meter penalty shot.  Rachel Rust paced the offense for Lindenwood with six goals.  Drew L'Ecuyer and Vladislava Milutinovic each scored three, and Abigail Conner, Quincy Winship, and Abby VerMeer each hit the back of the cage once.

Head coach Dave Miller was positive despite the losing record.

"Although we went 1-2, we really played well and made significant improvement over the previous tournament," he said.  "We were without some players, so hopefully they will be back soon."

Lindenwood returns to action at the Spartan Invitational February 20-21 at the MSU Natatorium in East Lansing, Mich.  The Lady Lions face Michigan at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by Michigan State at 4:30 p.m. and Miami (Ohio) at 8:30 p.m. Lindenwood will play Grand Valley State at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
