Box Score The Lindenwood softball team wrapped up the Rosemont Tournament Sunday morning with a tough loss to host Lewis by a score of 8-7 in Rosemont, Ill.
The Lady Lions exploded for four runs in the top of the first inning. Four consecutive batters reached when
Alexis Theis walked with one out and
Maria Tippit ripped a single through the right side.
Alexandra Newcomb found the right field line, scoring both Theis and Tippit as she made her way to third base for a triple.
Adele Linderman proceeded to double Newcomb, then advance on a wild pitch before
Caitlyn Touchette singled one to left field to give Lindenwood a 4-0 lead.
Lewis responded immediately in its half of the first as seven straight hitters reached base. A leadoff single and an error on Newcomb put runners on first and second with nobody out. Carly Jaworski hit a single up the middle, but
Brooklyn Sisk nailed a Lewis runner at the plate, but both runners moved into scoring position on the throw home. After a walk to lead the bases, the Flyers put strung two more hits and a walk together to even the score at 4-4 after the first inning.
The Lindenwood offense didn't stop in the second.
Taylor Scott poked one down left field line for a double, and Sisk followed with a double of her own to give the Lady Lions the lead again. Tippit reached on an error by the first baseman, and that brought in Sisk to give the Lady Lions a 6-4 lead.
Bethany Fountain settled down in the second, allowing one baserunner each of the next three innings, but stranded each of the Flyers.
Madison Huot hit a double to lead off Lindenwood's half of the fifth, but Lewis starter Ali Brems forced three straight fly balls to strand the junior in scoring position. Sisk made up for it in the top of the sixth when she cleared the fence in left center for her first homer of the season to build the Lady Lions' lead to three.
The Flyers began a rally of their own in the bottom of the sixth when a pair of singles out runners on second and third with one out. Kaylee Prieto hit her third triple of the weekend to drive two in to cut the Lindenwood lead to 7-6, and put herself in position to score the tying run.
Brooke Miller came in to relieve Fountain, however, Jaworski struck again with another single up the middle to tie the game, and advanced to second when Linderman slipped in the outfield. A walk and a couple steals put runners in scoring position for the Flyers, then another single up the middle gave the host school an 8-7 lead.
Morgan Colvis would come to to relieve Miller, and forced a popup to Scott at shortstop then struck out a hitter to head into the seventh down one.
Linderman led off with an infield single, and moved to second on a Huot sacrifice bunt. With two outs,
Morgan Brown got ahead 3-1 in the count, but would strike out to end the game.
With the loss, Lindenwood drops to 2-12 on the season, now on a nine-game losing streak. The Lady Lions open up their home schedule Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Rockhurst for a doubleheader at Lou Brock Sports Complex.
