Lions Fall to Life University

In the first Mid-South Conference battle of the season, men's rugby fell to Life University February 27 in Marietta, Ga.

The Running Eagles took the lead in the sixth minute, but the Lions drew a penalty moments later and Lunaile Tshuma slotted the kick for three points.  The score stayed that way until Life capitalized on a loose ball and crossed the line in the 20th minute for a 14-3 advantage.  It was back and forth action for the last 20 minutes of the half, but without any additional points going on the board.

Early in the second half, a Lindenwood handling error led to a Life try in the 44th minute and the lead was extended to 21-3.  The Running Eagles started to pull away from there.  Another score made it 28-3 and Life added five more points in the 55th minute to go up 33-3.  The Lions broke the drought for their first try of the game in the 70th minute when Mickey Bateman set up Maanihera Kapa and with the Tshuma conversion, the deficit was cut to 33-10, but Lorenzo Thomas was given a yellow card five minutes later, putting Lindenwood a man down on the pitch.  Life took advantage to make it 38-10.  With just a couple minutes to go, the Lions found some magic in a lineout and Jeremy Leber scored in the corner, but the Running Eagles had one more run left and put the final points on the scoreboard in the final 60 seconds.

The loss dropped Lindenwood to 5-2 overall and to 0-1 in conference play.  The Lions will have a chance to rebound against Life on home turf in three weeks, but will first host Davenport in another Mid-South tilt on March 12.  The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Lindenwood Track in St. Charles, Mo.
