Men's rugby came from behind to get a victory over Mid-South Conference opponent Davenport 18-12 Saturday evening at the Lindenwood Track in St. Charles, Mo.
After the Panthers fell short on a penalty kick attempt in the 13
th minute, they broke through the stout Lions defense in the 22
nd minute to take a 5-0 lead. Five minutes later, Lunaile Tshuma converted a penalty kick to pull Lindenwood to within two points. The score stayed that way through the rest of the first half and well into the second half until Davenport broke free for a try and conversion to make it 12-3. The Lions started their comeback from there when Tshuma slotted his second penalty kick of the game to make it 12-6 in the 60
th minute, and Lindenwood pulled to within a point moments later when Morgan Findlay dotted down, before Deion Mikesell streaked down the sideline for the go-ahead try. A successful conversion gave the Lions an 18-12 advantage and that proved to be the final.
With the victory, the Lions improved to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference, and also claimed the Charles Labry Memorial Shield, named to honor the fallen player who was killed by a vehicle in October 2014.
