Box Score The Lindenwood baseball team fell 6-3 to Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
Â
Lindenwood surrendered runs in the first, and again in the third to fall behind 2-0. The Lions faced a tough pitcher in Anthony Caenepeel who tossed 8.1 innings and allowed just seven hits.Â
Nathan Prindle put the Lions on the board with a solo shot to centerfield to cut the deficit to just one. The Bearcats were able to get a run back in the top of the fifth and added two more in the top of the seventh to take a 5-1 lead.
Â
The Lions surrendered one run in the top of the ninth and fought back in the bottom of the inning.Â
Drew Quinones and
Mike Ehrhard started the final frame with back-to-back singles, as Quinones scored later in the inning.Â
Bobby Lang prevented a double-play by beating out the throw to first, allowing Baxter to score. Although the Lions put up two runs in the final inning, it was too little too late as Lindenwood lost to the Bearcats by a 6-3 final.
Â
The Lions struggled on defense as they committed three errors to allow Northwest Missouri to scored two unearned runs. The Lindenwood pitching staff had a combined nine strikeouts as each pitcher tallied at least one strikeout in the game.Â
Ryan Sosnowski was the only player for the Lions who had two hits, and seven of Lindenwood's eight hits were singles.
Â
The loss sets Lindenwood back to 7-5 on the year and 2-3 in the MIAA. The Lions will complete their three-game series with Northwest Missouri on Sunday at noon in St. Charles, Mo. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
