Rebecca Stocker had a throwing error to force in another Missouri Southern run to increase the lead to 2-0. Starter
Morgan Colvis forced another flyout to the next hitter, but
Madison Huot caught a Lion runner trying to tag up and score for the 7-2 double play to end the inning.
The game cruised through the next inning heading into the third.
Taylor Scott walked to lead off the inning, and
Brooklyn Sisk advanced her to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a Stocker single put runners on the corners,
Maria Tippit recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice to cut the Missouri Southern lead in half. The home team would get the run back the next inning, however, on a single that scored the second unearned run of the game.
After two more runs by Missouri Southern in the fourth, the Lady Lions could only muster one more baserunner the last three innings as the final score of 5-1 would hold in favor of Missouri Southern.
Stocker tallied the only two knocks for the Lady Lions, while Colvis drops to 4-11 on the year.
Game TwoMissouri Southern took advantage of a lead-off walk in the second inning by
Bethany Fountain to get the early lead 1-0 before adding another run two batters later for a two-run lead. The Lady Lions remained unphased as
Kourtney Bunselmeyer came around to score on a Tippit single to right center, and
Alexandra Newcomb followed with a single of her own to score
Caitlyn Touchette to tie the game at two.
Fountain continued to struggle, surendering five hits in the bottom of the third which resulted in four Missouri Southern runs to take a 6-2 lead.
Payton Wilson entered the circle and ended the inning after allowing a single. The host Lions added two more in the bottom of the fourth on a double and infield single before Wilson induced a double play to end the fourth.
Down to their final out, the Lady Lions clawed at the lead in the top of the fifth when Touchette came across to score on a wild pitch for the third run of the game. Down 10-3, Wilson shut down Missouri Southern in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Lions cut into the lead in the top of the seventh, giving their best effort to comeback. After
Brooklyn Sisk grounded out to leadoff the inning, Touchette walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Tippit drove her in on a full count with a double, before Newcomb reached on an error. With two on and one out, Huot drilled a homer to centerfield to cut the deficit to three.
Adele Linderman worked a walk right after the home run to chase Kali' Hodson from the circle. After a wild pitch moved Linderman to second,
Faith Koffron also walked. A Wilson fielder's choice put runners on the corners with two outs to bring up Bunselmeyer. The rally would end for Lindenwood when Bunselmeyer struck out to end the game.
Fountain would suffer the loss, as Tippit recorded a three-hit game. Newcomb tallied a pair of knocks, while Huot drove in three runs.
The pair of losses drop Lindenwood to 8-32, and 5-15 in the MIAA. The Lady Lions will host Maryville on Wednesday night from Lou Brock Sports Complex starting at 5 p.m.
