The Lindenwood field hockey team continued its hot start to the 2016 season with a 4-0 win over Belmont Abbey on Friday. The Lady Lions have started off a season with a 3-0 record for the second time in school history with the last time occurring in 2008.

In the beginning of the first half, the Lady Lions controlled the ball offensively, recording eight shots and five penalty corner attempts while holding the Lady Crusaders to zero shots and one corner until the 17:28 mark.
Victoria Buysschaert prevailed as the first goal scored for the Lady Lions off a loose ball and poked the ball in the net.

Neither team recorded a shot for the next four minutes until
Shelby Easley scored her second goal of the season to extend the Lady Lions' lead to 2-0. The Lady Crusaders attempted to rebound after that, but could not manage to score off four shots and four corner opportunities until halftime.

The Lady Lions came out of the locker rooms firing in the second half, registering two shots on goal and a shot off the goal post.
Tara Robben continued to build off her strong senior season with her fourth goal of the season at the 42:37 mark to extend the Lady Lions' lead to three.

Both teams exchanged possession of the ball and played lockdown defense for the next 15 minutes as they each saved two shots. Robben tacked on her second goal of the game at the 62:08 mark to give the Lady Lions the 4-0 victory.

In summary, the Lady Lions outshot the Lady Crusaders by a 23-8 margin. The Lady Crusaders saved 11 of those shots while the Lady Lions had five. Each team recorded seven penalty corner attempts.

Robben led the team with seven shots attempted with six of the on-goal variety.
Savannah Motley assisted on both of Robben's goals in the second half while
Bridget Hoogendijk registered a helper on Buysschaert's score.

The Lady Lions hit the field again tomorrow to take on Queens University of Charlotte at 11 am. They will attempt to start off 4-0 for the first time in school history. Â
