Game Recap: Field Hockey (Discontinued) |

Field Hockey Sets a Season-High Seven Goals in Win Over Mercy College

The Lindenwood field hockey team dominated for the second straight day after shutting out new-ECAC Division II Field Hockey member, Mercy College, by a final score of 7-0. The Lady Lions have scored at least five goals in three different games this season.

Throughout the game, Karlie Quinn contributed mightily on the offensive side of the ball. She scored the first goal of the game off a swift pass from Tara Robben at the 8:44 mark. In return, Quinn assisted right back to Robben at the 39:53 mark that gave the Lady Lions a 4-0 lead. The score was Robben's ninth goal of the season, which leads the ECAC.

Quinn capped off her huge day with her second goal at the 45:24 mark thanks to a helper from Graycen Dave to give the Lady Lions a five-goal lead. In addition to her two goals, she added two more shots-on-goal.

Midway through the first half, Maroussia Buysschaert scooped a pass to Noor Fons and Fons found the open goal for her second score of the season which gave the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead. Mercy nearly jumped on the board with a shot-on-goal at 20-minute mark, but Skylar Starbeck made the stop at goalie.

Greta Banholzer added onto her illustrious weekend with a slingshot six yards away from the goal to give the Lady Lions a 3-0 edge heading into halftime. She scored one goal and assisted twice in the 6-0 win over Newberry on Saturday.

Bridget Hoogendijk mimicked Banholzer's shot with a laser of her own in the second half, scoring her third goal of the season with five minutes left in the game. The Lady Lions put the icing on the cake with a goal from Victoria Buysschaert assisted by Virginie Leyssens with three minutes remaining. That goal marked the Lady Lions' season-high seven goals in a game which is the most since November 16, 2014 when they defeated Newberry 8-1.

The Lady Lions totaled 18 shots-on-goal to the Mavericks' six for the game. In the corners category, the Lady Lions had 23 opportunities compared to Mercy's three.

After they improved their record to 5-1 and 2-0 in the ECAC, the Lady Lions will take a few days off before they host their third straight home game on Friday, September 30 at 5 pm against Belmont Abbey.
