Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Roe Notches Hat Trick in 3-2 Win At Missouri Western

The Lindenwood women's soccer team, led by Kat Roe, defeated Missouri Western on Sunday afternoon, 3-2, in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Lady Lions, looking to avenge their 1-0 overtime loss a week ago to the Griffons, came out with a look of determination. Alexis Robbers and Kristin Brewer each had a shot, but either sailed high or wide. Lindenwood also got a couple corner kick opportunities, but the Missouri Western defense held strong.

Roe broke through for the Lady Lions in the 16th minute when Alyssa Houck passed from the right side and the junior knocked it in for her third goal of the season.

After the Griffons forced a corner kick chance as one of their few opportunities in the first half, Roe struck again, this time on a cross from Miranda Huebner from 30 yards out.

At halftime, Lindenwood led 2-0 and held the Griffons to zero shots, and accumulated eight of its own.

Just as the opening half began for the Lady Lions, the second half started for Missouri Western. After a shot attempt, the hosts received a corner kick and took advantage. Bailey Dervin scored for the Griffons off the chance from Maddy Cowell to cut the Lindenwood lead in half.

The Griffons' persistence paid off again in the 76th minute when Layne Shepherd scored this time, once again from Cowell.

Immediately after surrendering the two-nil lead, Roe charged down the field on a mission. Just 41 seconds after the Missouri Western equalizer, Roe fired in her third goal of the game on a penalty kick to give the Lady Lions a 3-2 lead, which would hold for the final.

Head coach Laurie Kaminski showed pride in her team for not giving up after allowing the 2-0 lead to disappear. "We played well for the majority of the game, but let them get back into it. I am proud of their ability to come back after that."

The Lady Lions begin their conference season with three points after the win, and move to 4-2-1 overall.

"Getting points, especially a win on the road, is like gold in this conference," Kaminski said with a smile.

Lindenwood gets back to the pitch on Friday night against Fort Hays State from Hunter Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
