Men's Basketball Looks to Stay Hot Against Pittsburg State

Saturday's Game At A Glance
• The Lindenwood men's basketball team has part two of this week's road trip when it faces Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kan.

• The Lions picked up one of its top wins of the season on Thursday night with an 84-77 overtime victory at Missouri Southern. Lindenwood improved to 13-6 overall and 3-4 in the MIAA. The Lions have won four of their five games since their Christmas break.

• Pittsburg State will enter the game with a 3-12 overall record, and a 1-6 MIAA mark. The Gorillas have lost two straight games, including a 77-69 setback against Lincoln on Thursday night.

• Lindenwood and Pittsburg State have already played once this season, with the Lions winning by an 89-83 score in Hyland Arena. The Lions shot 54.4 percent from the field and outrebounded the Gorillas by 12 boards. Lindenwood trailed late, but Brenon Larson-Gulsvig scored the final seven points of the game, and the Lions didn't allow a point for the final 2:25.

• The all-time series between the Lions and Gorillas is tied at four wins apiece. Lindenwood is 2-1 in Pittsburg, Kan. It has won two straight there, including last year's first-round MIAA Tournament game.

Lindenwood Notes
• Lindenwood hit 16 three-pointers against Missouri Southern, the third-most in program history for a game. Jackson Price has made six three-pointers in each of the last two games, tying LJ McIntosh for the most made by a Lion this season. The six three-pointers by those two players tie for the ninth-most in program history for a single game.

• Lindenwood had season-highs against Missouri Southern with 54 bench points and 22 points off turnovers, and over the last two games have 95 bench points and 43 points off turnovers. On the season, the Lions are averaging 15.3 points off turnovers, and 25.9 bench points a game. Last season, the Lions averaged 8.7 points off turnovers and 15.0 bench points a contest.

• Lindenwood overcame deficits of eights points or more in each of its last two games. Five times this season, it has won a game in which it has trailed by seven or more points.

Chandler Diekvoss ranks in the top-10 in the MIAA in both rebounding and scoring. Only two other players in the MIAA rank in the top-10 in both categories.

• Among MIAA sophomores, Chandler Diekvoss is the top scorer with 15.9 points a game, just ahead of Emporia State's Brandon Hall with a 15.5 average.
• Among conference freshmen, Dominique Dobbs is first with 8.4 rebounds a contest, and he is second in scoring with 12.4 points a game. Missouri Southern's Elyjah Clark is the top freshmen scorer with 13.3 points a game.

Jackson Price has scored 27 and 28 points in his last two games. He is the fifth Lion to score 20 or more points in a game this year. Last season, four players had a 20-point game for Lindenwood, and just one accomplished that feat more than once. Four Lions this year have multiple 20-point games.

• The Lions have forced 14 or more turnovers in 11 of their 19 games this year, including in each of their last six contests. The increased playing time of Bakari Triggs has something to do with that, as he has a team-high nine steals in those six games.

• Lindenwood's win on Thursday was its first road victory of the season over a NCAA Division II opponent. The Lions have seven more MIAA road games this season, including Saturday's contest against Pittsburg State. Lindenwood has five more MIAA home games, plus one non-conference contest at Hyland Arena.

• In the latest national rankings, the Lions rank in the top-50 in free-throw percentage (48th), scoring defense (44th), and turnovers per game (35th).

A Look At the Gorillas
• Pittsburg State started its post-Christmas schedule with two straight wins, including a 17-point conference win over Missouri Western. The Gorillas have fallen to Northwest Missouri and Lincoln though in their last two games.

• Turnovers have been an issue for the Gorillas, as they are last in the MIAA with 16.4 turnovers a contest.

• Pittsburg State has a balanced offensive attack, with seven players averaging 6.9 points a game or more. Jaxon Holden, who scored 19 in the first meeting with the Lions, leads the team with 10.6 points a game.

• Isaiah Hicks and Creighton Brinker are both averaging around five rebounds a game. Brinker also leads the team with 22 blocks. R.J. Pair is the team leader with 28 assists, and Creighton Brinker has 26 steals.
