The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell to the No. 7 Robert Morris Colonials 5-2 on Saturday afternoon from 84 Lumber Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. Lindenwood received a two-goal performance from freshman defender
Courtney Ganske, the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
For the second consecutive game Lindenwood scored first, grabbing a one-goal lead in the opening period.
Britannia Gillanders fed Ganske with a pass at the right point, which Ganske then ripped through traffic and into the back of the net. For Ganske the goal was her third of the season, the most among Lady Lion defenders.
Sarah Bobrowski also tallied an assist on the goal, which was scored 5:09 into the first period.
Robert Morris would even the score shortly after, scoring an even-strength goal at the 10:47 mark of the first period. Jaycee Gebhard scored the goal for the Colonials, her 14th of the season.
The score would remain tied for the duration of the first period, with Robert Morris holding the advantage in shots 10-4.
The two teams engaged in back-and-forth action on both ends of the ice to open the second period. With 8:57 showing on the clock, Robert Morris seized control of the game, as Amanda Pantaleo found the back of the net and the Colonials took a 2-1 lead.
Robert Morris would score two more goals during the middle period, growing its lead to a 4-1 margin. Rikki Meilleur and Amber Rennie were the goal scorers for the Colonials.
While on the power play late in the second period, Lindenwood would cut into the Robert Morris lead on the strength of Ganske's second goal of the afternoon. Assisting on Ganske's fourth goal of the season were
Ally Larson and
Cierra Paisley. The goal came at the 18:01 mark of the second period, and was the second power-play score of the season for Ganske.
The second period would come to a close with Robert Morris leading 4-2.
The Colonials would add to their lead with a power-play goal late in the third period. Maeve Garvey would score the final goal of the afternoon for either team, as she brought the game to its final score of 5-2.
Morgan Skinner made the start in goal for the Lady Lions, her fifth start of the season. Skinner turned in 32 saves, her third game with at least 30 saves this season.
Robert Morris outshot Lindenwood 37-19 for the game.
Taylor Girard led the way for the Lady Lions with four shots on goal.
The Lindenwood power-play unit finished the contest with one goal on its three chances. The Lady Lion penalty-kill managed to hold the Colonials scoreless on five of their six power play chances.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 5-14-2 and 3-6-1 from within the CHA. With the victory, Robert Morris moves to 15-2-5 and 8-1-1 in conference action. The Lady Lions will return home for a two-game series with the Syracuse Orange on Jan. 20-21 at Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
Puck drop on Jan. 20 is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and will be the 5th Annual Pink the Rink game.
