Men's Basketball Drops MIAA Decision Against Washburn

The Lindenwood men's basketball team could not cool off one of the hottest teams in the MIAA on Saturday afternoon. The Lions fell to Washburn by a 76-74 margin inside Hyland Arena.

Lindenwood fell in a 36-29 hole after 20 minutes, but battled back throughout the second half. The Lion tied the team three times before taking a 57-56 lead on an Adam Pohlman three-pointer. After trading leads, the Lions collected their biggest lead of the second half at 61-58 on a tip-in by Chandler Diekvoss with 5:20 remaining.

Washburn came right back and tied the game on a three-point play, and then took the lead with 4:37 on the clock on a jumper inside the paint. The Ichabods slowly pushed ahead after that point. Lindenwood's last chance came when Pohlman had a three-point play with nine seconds remaining to cut the Ichabods' lead to three. Washburn sank one free throw though to seal the victory.

Washburn won the game inside the paint. The Ichabods had a 39-24 advantage in rebounds, and scored 40 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points. Lindenwood kept the game close by forcing eight more turnovers in the game, and hitting 10 three-pointers.

Brad Newman led the Lions with 17 points, and Adam Pohlman had a career-high 16 points. Newman was six-of-seven from the field, and made all three three-pointers he attempted. Pohlman led the team with six rebounds and two steals, and he had three assists and no turnovers.

Chandler Diekvoss was the third Lindenwood player in double-figure scoring with 11, and he had a team-high four assists. All nine players who saw the court scored for the Lions, including Luka Radosevic who returned after missing the last five games, and he had four points.

Lindenwood falls to 7-3 on the season and 1-2 in MIAA play. The Lions have a quick turnaround as they return to Hyland Arena on Monday night for a 7:30 p.m. game against Emporia State.
