Women's water polo won a game and lost two at the first conference crossover event in the Midwest Division February 11-12 at the Hudsonville Aquatics Center in Hudsonville, Michigan. The Lady Lions earned a 17-3 victory over Cincinnati, but dropped a 10-7 contest to Notre Dame and fell to McKendree 16-9.
In the first game of the weekend on Saturday, Lindenwood posted a convincing win against the Bearcats. Michal Andreatta led the offense with six goals and four assists. She also had four steals in the contest. Abby VerMeer had four goals, three assists and three steals, and Vladislava Milutinovic had two goals, an assist, and eight steals. Dani Rust and Delaney Simmons split goaltending duties. Rust made three saves while Simmons stopped four.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Lions had trouble stopping the Fighting Irish offense. Rust made 12 saves to keep Lindenwood close, but it was just too much. Andreatta again led the Lady Lions with three goals, two assists and four steals. Abby Conner, Heather Rosson, VerMeer, and Milutinovic each added single markers.
In the lone game of the day against McKendree on Sunday, Lindenwood wasn't able to keep pace with the Bearcat offense, however the Lady Lions were strong on defense, forcing 14 steals as a team, led by Rust who had four. Andreatta again scored the most goals with four, and helped on two others. VerMeer and Milutinovic each hit the back of the cage twice and Quincy Winship scored once.
Lindenwood opens the new season with a record of 1-2. The Lady Lions return to action for the Michigan Spartan Invite February 17-19. A single game against Michigan is scheduled for Friday at 9:30 p.m. Games against Grand Valley State and Michigan State are set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. respectively, and Lindenwood faces Ohio State at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. All games take place at the MSU Natatorium in East Lansing, Michigan.
