No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Opens RMAC Play with 19-7 Road Triumph

The No. 2 ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team defeated the Colorado Mesa Mavericks by a final score of 19-7 in its first RMAC contest of the season on Tuesday afternoon in Grand Junction, Colo. Twelve different Lady Lions scored a goal during the victory, while 13 players had at least one point.
 
After 2:22 of scoreless action to begin the game, Lindenwood's Sophie Buelow gave the team a 1-0 lead with an unassisted score. The Lady Lions would score the next three goals of the game, as they moved in front by a four-goal margin after 8:30 of play. Erin Abbott, Morgan Judd, and Sarah Goetz tallied the scores for Lindenwood.
 
Coloardo Mesa responded with two goals over a seven-second stretch, as the score moved to 4-2 in favor of the Lady Lions with just over 21 minutes remaining in the first half.
 
Lindenwood answered Colorado Mesa's two-goal run by outscoring the Mavericks 8-2 over the remainder of the half. Judd scored the first of the eight Lady Lion goals off of a free-position shot. Rachel Benzing, Sarah Cromer, Maria Johnson, Jenna Battaglini, Goetz, and Hurley all found the back of the cage for Lindenwood, as it took a commanding 12-4 lead into halftime.
 
Colorado Mesa scored the first two goals of the second half, moving within six goals of Lindenwood at 12-6.
 
Lindenwood promptly scored seven of the game's final eight goals, bringing the score to its final count of 19-7. Johnson opened the second-half scoring for the Lady Lions at the 22:05 mark, before Buelow scored again 12 seconds later.
 
Remi Larson, Carly Fedorowski, Cassie Stucklen, Garland Fiser, and Battaglini all tallied second-half scores for Lindenwood.
 
The Lady Lions used three goalies in the victory. Rachel Ortell made her fourth start of the season; making two saves en route to her fourth win of the year. Ortell was relieved by Delaney Solomon to begin the second half. Solomon made one save, before Aly Smith made her first-career appearance in net, making one save in just over nine minutes of action.
 
Buelow led Lindenwood with four goals and six points.
 
Abbott secured a team-leading six draw controls. Hunter Waldau and five other Lady Lions each scooped up three groundballs to pace the team. Fedorowski caused a team-high two turnovers.
 
With the victory No. 2 Lindenwood improves to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in RMAC play. The Lady Lions will take on the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Thursday afternoon from Durango, Colo. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. MT/5:00 p.m. CT.
