Lindenwood on the Attack Versus Miami (Ohio)

After just a 50-minute break, the Lady Lions were back in the pool against the Lakers, and started strong, opening up a 3-1 advantage after the first quarter, but Grand Valley responded to take a 4-3 advantage into halftime.  Fatigue caught up with Lindenwood in the second half and the Lakers pulled away for the win.  Andreatta and VerMeer each scored twice, while Rust made four saves from the cage and added eight steals.

The final match of the day turned into a nail-biter with long-time rival Notre Dame.  The Lady Lions dropped a 10-7 decision to the Fighting Irish early in the season, but put forth a tough effort out of the gate.  Both teams had offense going in the first period, which ended in a tie at four.  Lindenwood controlled Notre Dame in the second and put two markers on the board to take a 6-4 lead to the half.  The Fighting Irish made some key adjustments in the third quarter and scored three times while only giving up a single goal to the Lady Lions.  The game was tied at seven with one quarter to go. Lindenwood demonstrated a tough pressing defense in the fourth and kept Notre Dame from scoring while managing to strike for the lead midway through the frame.  The stingy defense prevailed the rest the game and the Lady Lions preserved the 8-7 victory.

Heather Rosson was the top scorer for Lindenwood with three goals, while Connor added a pair.  Vladislava Milutinovic, Quincy Winship, and Andreatta all had single markers to help the Lady Lions cause.  Delaney Simmons, Winship, and Milutinovic each had an assist.  Rust had nine saves in goal with two steals, Andreatta had four steals, while VerMeer had three.

After a seven game losing streak in late February and early March, the Lady Lions have now won four of seven to improve to 7-13 for the season.  After a weekend off, Lindenwood returns to action for the Midwest Division Championships April 22-23 in Notre Dame, Indiana.  The Lady Lions enter the conference tournament as the number four seed and will face number five seed Cincinnati in the opening round at 11:10 a.m. Saturday.  The surviving team for the weekend advances to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Women's Division I Club Championship which will be hosted by the University of Pittsburgh May 5-7 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
