Women's track & field standout,
Kendra Smith, was named second-team Academic All-American on Thursday for her dedication to both athletics and academics.
Â
Smith capped off her great Lindenwood career by winning her fourth All-American award after placing fifth in the women's triple jump. Kendra set a career-high with a mark of 12.64m at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. That jump placed her in fifth and she stayed in that position through three more rounds of jumps.
Â
Smith is one of the most successful athletes for the Lady Lions since they moved to the NCAA level. She finished sixth in the 2015 outdoor national meet, was fourth in the 2016 indoor nationals, and sixth in this year's indoor competition. She was also a four-time all-MIAA honoree, including being runner-up in the triple jump at the indoor and outdoor meets this year.
Â
Kendra is the sixth Lindenwood student-athlete to earn the award this year, as Academic All-Americans are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The six Academic All-Americans are the most that Lindenwood has accumulated in a school year. The Lions have had 23 Academic All-American award winners since they started participating in the program in 2008-09, including 18 since the 2012-13 school year.
