Three women's wrestlers placed at the Midland University Lady Warrior Open October 13 in Fremont, Nebraska.
Mariya Gaither finished second in the 143 lb. class,
Jasmine Hernandez took third in the 136 lb. division, and
Kimberly De La Cruz finished third in the 191 lb. class.
Gaither began her journey with a win by fall over Mya Faneitty from Waldorf University. Gaither earned a 10-0 technical fall victory against Theresa Guarriello from Gannon University in the quarterfinals, and then edged Tanalei Louis from Midland in a 6-5 decision. In the title match, Gaither lost by technical fall to Alexis Porter from McKendree University.
Hernandez received a bye in the opening round before losing to Darla Allen from McKendree in the quarterfinals. Hernandez found her way through the consolation bracket all the way to the third place match, first with a technical fall win over Alexis Lopez from MacMurray College. Hernandez earned another technical fall victory in the consolation semifinals against Caroline Camarillo from Gannon University before winning the third place match by technical fall over Savannah Vold from Waldorf.
De La Cruz opened with a pin of Rosalba Orozco from Midland and followed with another pin against Jythssel Mascorro from Ottawa University in the quarterfinals. De La Cruz was stopped by Destane Garrick in the semifinals, but rebounded with a win by fall over Kacie Rodriguez from MacMurray College in the consolation semifinals. De La Cruz took the third place match by decision 9-4 against Angel Ochoa from Missouri Baptist University.
Two other wrestlers represented Lindenwood at the event.
Audrey Elgarico went 1-2 in the 136 lb. division with a 14-10 decision over Alexis Lopez from MacMurray College, and
Adrienne Dominguez went 1-2 in the 170 lb. class with a win by fall over Hannah Scheivert from Midland.
