Women's water polo faced some tough competition, getting one win in four games at the Chicago Showcase October 27-28 at Lyons Township High School in La Grange, Illinois. After defeating Carthage College 12-8, the Lions fell to Indiana 18-4 on Saturday, then were edged by Florida 9-8 and lost to Toronto 9-3 on Sunday.
In the contest against the Lady Reds,
Isabella Boccia,
Madelynn Klein-Courville,
Hanna Muller, and
Emily Kini each scored twice, while
Paige Miller,
Naomi Sanders, Nikki Howe, and
Abby VerMeer added single markers.
Betsy Zanocco stopped nine shots in goal while
Harmony Moran stopped six in split duties.
The Hoosiers dominated Lindenwood, but Zanocco did stop five shots while Moran made four saves in goal. Boccia, Miller, Howe, and VerMeer each scored once.
In the first game on Sunday, the Gators jumped out to a five-goal lead before Lindenwood made a solid comeback, aided by great defense that held Florida scoreless in the final quarter, but the Lions came up just short. Sanders led the offense with three goals, Kini had two, and Boccia, Miller, and VerMeer each hit the back of the cage once. Zanocco and Moran combined for 10 saves in the contest.
Unfortunately, the final game of the weekend was immediately after the one against the Gators, and Lindenwood was a bit gassed, only managing to score three. Boccia, Sanders, and Muller earned markers while Zanocco and Moran combined for nine saves.
