Several members of the Lindenwood Synchronized Swimming team competed at various global competitions during the summer of 2018, and in true Lindenwood Synchro fashion, they made a lasting impact.

Sophomore Oyku Evliya participated at the Glasgow European Championships, a multi-athletic event that featured several top European sports including synchronized swimming. Evliya and her team earned their way to the finals.

Evliya reflected on the summer training and success.Â
Â
"I used the Lindenwood work ethic I had learned from this past year during my training and as a result, ended up on the Turkish National Team and at the Glassgow Championships."

Evilya was not the only athlete to make a statement this summer.
Â
Junior Kyra Hoevertsz competed at the Central American and Caribbean Games for Aruba while pairing with her teammate, Abigail De Veer. Under the leadership of Lindenwood Head Coach Mikayla Francese, the two earned three medals, a first for the Aruba Synchro team.

Hoevertsz won bronze in the tech and free solo events and a bronze in the free duet competition with De Veer in Barranquilla, Colombia.

"It's such an amazing feeling to have been able to accomplish this," Hoevertsz said. Â "We competed against top countries like Mexico and Colombia and were able to hold our own." Â

Shelby Kasse
Sophomore Shelby Kasse also competed on a national level in the Netherlands at the Nederlandse Kampionenschappen where her and her team earned the gold medal in the combo event. Leading up to this, she competed at the Regio Wedstrijd in the solo event where she also captured a gold medal.

Francese spoke about the overall success.

"It's great to see members of our team represent their countries at such big events in our sport," she said. Â "It shows the nature of our program and the hard-working members we have from around the world. I'm very proud of their accomplishments and am excited for them to bring their recent experience to Lindenwood this season."
