Football Drops First Game of 2018

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood football team lost 27-14 to Washburn on Thursday night in St. Charles, Mo. after being shutout in the second half.  The Lions fall to 0-1 on the season while the Ichabods start the year at 1-0.  The Lions allowed seven points in the first quarter, but bounced back for 14-unanswered points in the second.  Cade Brister led the Lions on a 15-play 83-yard drive that ended with a four-yard touchdown run by the freshman in his first game of his career.  Brister found Erik Henneman in the corner of the end zone for a five-yard touchdown pass to give the Lions a 14-7 lead.

The Lindenwood defense stood strong for 13 minutes of the second frame, but allowed 10 points in the final two minutes.  After the second Washburn touchdown tied the game, Lindenwood went three-and-out to allow Washburn with another shot at points near the end of the half.  The Ichabods added a 19-yard field goal as time expired to take a 17-14 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Ichabods handled the Lions offense before scoring a touchdown less than three minutes into the second half.  Lindenwood struggled to get any offense going in the second half as the Ichabods topped off their scoring with a 45-yard field goal late in the third quarter.  The scoreless four quarter began with back-to-back turnovers, but did not see a threat to score by either team.  The Ichabods left St. Charles, Mo. with a 27-14 win in Hunter Stadium to open the 2018 season.
