The Lindenwood swimming and diving teams both took home victories on Saturday afternoon against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and McKendree University in the first ever St. Louis Showcase. All teams were challenged to swim in Olympic format during the meet.
The women's team scored 645 total points, while the men compiled a total of 813.50.
For the men,
Justin Winnett was a standout performer, picking up first-place honors in the 50-meter freestyle and the 50-meter breaststroke. Other notable swimmers with first-place finishes include,
Cristian Vasquez (200-meter IM), Zach Linder (100-meter freestyle), and
Jan Hanzal (400-meter freestyle). As a team, the men picked up a victory in the 500-meter freestyle relay.
For the women, two swimmers picked up first place finishes on Saturday afternoon.
Simone de Rijcke finished the 400-meter freestyle in first-place, while
Shelby Quinn won the 50-meter backstroke. As a team, the women picked up a victory in the 500-meter freestyle relay.
The swimmers were also included in an aggregate ranking, where their times for each event they competed in were combined and they were then ranked accordingly. On the men's side, six Lions finished in the top six spots of the aggregate rankings, with
Jan Hanzal leading the way with a final combined time of 7:33.36. The women claimed the top four spots in the ranking and were led by
Simone de Rijcke (final time: 8:27.56).
Both teams will be back in action against the University of Missouri in Columbia on Friday, October 5
th.
