Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Falls to Penn State on Monday

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-15-2, 1-8-1 CHA) surrendered a late goal in the third period in a 2-1 loss to Penn State (10-9-4, 4-6-0 CHA) in University Park, Pa. on Monday.

Penn State opened the game by applying a large amount of pressure on Lindenwood, but the Lions held strong in the defensive end to keep it a scoreless game.  After the first intermission the Lions found more success in the faceoff circle and registered more shots on net, which paid off at the 7:31 mark of the second period.  Megan Wagner pressed into the offensive zone and found Shannon Morris-Reade who put the puck on the stick of Cierra Paisley as she went top shelf for the 1-0 lead.

The Nittany Lions quickly responded just three and a half minutes later to take the momentum away from Lindenwood.  Penn State continued to apply pressure and controlled the reminder of the period, but the Lions kept it at a 1-1 tie game.

Sophie Wolf gave her team a chance as she registered 43 saves in the game and tallied a .956 save percentage.  Wolf battled through an equipment issue in the third which led the Annika Asplundh making an appearance in the game.  Asplundh came in the game at the 12:41 mark of the third period and immediately had to kill off a penalty.  The New Hope, Pa. native made seven saves in her three minutes between the pipes to keep it a 1-1 game.

The Nittany Lions scored the game-winning goal on the power play with less than four minutes to go in the game.  Lindenwood could not complete the comeback and fell 2-1 to close out the two-game series.
