The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-3, 0-0 CHA) will return to Maryland Heights, Mo. this weekend for a two-game series against Union College (0-4, 0-0 ECACH) at the Centene Community Ice Center. Game one is set to start at 7:10 p.m. on Friday, while the second game of the series will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
GAME PREVIEW
Lindenwood is coming off of a split series with Bemidji State last weekend in Bemidji, Minn. The Lions won 3-2 in game one, before closing out the weekend with a tough 1-0 loss. The game one triumph marked the first NCAA victory for head coach
Shelley Looney.
Lindenwood allowed the first goal of the game, but rattled off three-straight goals to earn a 3-2 victory.
Lokelani Antonio scored her first collegiate goal, while
Kayla Martinez notched her second-career goal.
Hannah Alt scored her second of the season to take the team lead in goals scored.
Sophie Wolf and
Annika Asplundh each took one start over the weekend. Wolf earned a victory on Friday after making 30 saves, while Asplundh took the loss on Saturday, but made 40 saves in her second start of the year. Alt, Antonio, and Martinez have each tallied two points on the year, Alt as scored twice, while Antonio and Martinez have each scored one goal and dished out one assist this year. Wolf has compiled a 3.15 goals against average with a 91.8 save percentage.
Union has four different players with one point on the season, while Leah Herrfort and Katelynn Russ have the two goals for the Dutchwomen. Bella McKee has posted a 2.90 goals against average with a 91.9 save percentage in her three games played.
SERIES HISTORY
Lindenwood and Union College are tied 1-1 in the series history, after facing off for the first time last season. The Lions won the first game in Schenectady, N.Y., while the Dutchwomen earned a victory in game two.
Sierra Burt jumped out to a hot start on the weekend, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the first meeting. Burt assisted the first goal scored by
Cierra Paisley to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Burt broke the tie halfway through the first period, later standing as the game winner.
Lillian Marchant added to the lead in the second period, while Burt capped off the night with a late goal in the third period to give the Lions a 4-1 victory. In the second game, Burt registered an assist on the game-tying goal at the 10:23 mark of the third period. However, Union College scored with less than two minutes to go in the game to even the series at 1-1.
Sophie Wolf made her second-career start in game two, making 19 saves in the 3-2 loss. Lindenwood will look for its first win in the new Centene Community Ice Center after falling in both games to No. 1 Wisconsin at the end of September.
