Lindenwood earned four wins at the second conference crossover weekend in the Midwest Division March 30-31 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Missouri. The Lions received a forfeit victory over Miami (Ohio), then stopped Notre Dame 8-5 on Saturday, before defeating Grand Valley State 9-2 and Cincinnati 19-2 on Sunday.
After getting the 5-0 forfeit against the Redhawks, Lindenwood played a solid game against the Fighting Irish.
Naomi Sanders led the attack with three goals, followed by
Paige Miller and
Hanna Muller with two each, while
Emily Kini added a single marker.
Nicole Howe led the Lions with three assists, followed by Miller and Muller with two each. Miller and Muller also keyed the defense, leading Lindenwood with four steals each while four other players each had two.
Betsy Zanocco made seven saves in goal.
Both the Lions and Grand Valley State Lakers entered the weekend undefeated in conference play, but Lindenwood shut them out through the first three quarters on the way to a seven goal victory. Muller led the Lions with three goals and Miller, Sanders, Kini,
Isabella Boccia,
Sydney Walsh, and
Abby VerMeer each scored once. Muller and Howe also added two assists each with three other players helping once. Muller was a force on defense again with four steals and Zanocco made eight stops in goal.
In the final contest of the weekend, Lindenwood cruised to a big win over Cincinnati. Eight different players scored for the Lions led by VerMeer with six. Boccia and Kini each netted three markers, followed by
Noelle Redman and Muller with two each. Howe assisted on four goals with Zanocco helping on two. Walsh and Kini led the defense with three steals and Oliva Coplin,
Kayla Hamilton, and
Harmony Moran were three of seven players to get one steal. Zanocco added another eight saves to her stat-line as goalie.
With the weekend sweep, Lindenwood improved to 10-7 overall and to 8-0 in the conference to earn the number one seed for the Midwest Division Championship Tournament April 13-14 at Rolf's Aquatic Center in South Bend, Indiana.
