Lindenwood Athletics Finishes 11th in Directors’ Cup Standings

The Lindenwood athletics department secured the 11th spot in the final release of the 2018-19 Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings on Tuesday, capping another year of continued success for the University. Lindenwood's 11th-place finish out of 308 NCAA Division II institutions was its second-highest final ranking since it became a full-time NCAA Division II member during the 2013-14 school year. The Lions finished ranked sixth in the 2016-17 standings.

The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup honors athletics departments that have a broad-based program that achieves success in many sports. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

Lindenwood, under the direction of Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Brad Wachler, finished with a total of 564 points this year. For the second time in three years, Lindenwood finished first in the standings among MIAA institutions.

After failing to record any points during the fall season, Lindenwood totaled 370 points in the winter season and another 194 points in the spring season as it rose up the standings. Lindenwood received 315.75 points from its women's programs and 248.25 points from its men's programs.

Lindenwood's wrestling program led the way in the winter, as it finished seventh at the NCAA Division II National Championship, which earned 72 Directors' Cup points.

Also in the winter, Lindenwood received significant contributions from the swimming and diving and indoor track and field programs. Swimming and diving accounted for a total of 138 points between the two programs, with the men's and women's teams each totaling 69 Directors' Cup points, respectively. Women's track and field picked up 54.5 points and men's track and field added 43.5 points.

Following its historic run to the NCAA Regional Championships, the gymnastics program received 37 total points. The women's basketball team added 25 points as it reached the NCAA Regional Tournament for the second consecutive season.

In the spring, the men's golf team totaled 63.75 points following its 12th-place finish at the NCAA DII National Championship. Women's track and field added an additional 62.25 points during the outdoor season. Women's golf reached the NCAA postseason for the sixth straight season to earn 43 points, while women's lacrosse also advanced to the postseason for the sixth consecutive season to record 25 points.
