Cheerleading Receives Silver and Four Bronze Bids to Nationals

The cheerleading squad received one silver paid bid and four bronze bids to Collegiate Nationals at a National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Nationals Qualifying Camp hosted at Lindenwood University August 17-18.

Each of the 12 teams in attendance had to create and perform a 45-second crowd leading cheer.  There were three different divisions with the top two in each division advancing to a final game day run-off.  The top three teams received silver bids.  The Lindenwood small coed advanced squad finished among the top three while the Lions small coed intermediate squad earned a bronze bid.

The Lions brought five competitive teams to the camp, boosted by several additions from Lindenwood – Belleville who made the move to the main campus.

"We're really excited about all of the new, young talent that we have this year," said Head Coach Carrie Nichols.  "Our program is as big as it's ever been at 121, and we have some incredible leaders that have the experience on the field and the experience of winning championships, so that will really help our teams continue to make a name at the NCA Collegiate Nationals in Daytona Beach (Florida).  It's great to kick off our season by earning these bids, but we're also excited about the 'Lions Supporting Lions' program and look forward to supporting all of the great athletes we have here at Lindenwood!"

The NCA camp, which had a theme of "Stronger Together," attracted 275 participants from seven schools including Grambling State University, Illinois College, Maryville University, Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, St. Louis University, and the University of Missouri, along with Lindenwood University.
