The Lion Line dance team finished third in both the Open Hip Hop and Open Jazz divisions at the 2020 UCA & UDA College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships January 17-19 in Orlando, Florida.
The Lady Lions advanced to the finals in Open Jazz as the top team from Group A, but ultimately finished behind the University of St. Thomas in first and Minnesota State University – Mankato in second place, the top two teams from Group B.
Lindenwood advanced to the finals of the Open Hip Hop division in second place out of 17 teams with a total score of 89.7935, just 0.2065 points behind the University of St. Thomas, the eventual winner. West Chester University edged the Lady Lions in the finals to take second place.
Head Coach
Whitney Sterns was thrilled with the performances.
"Two third place finishes is a dream for so many teams, so I am extremely proud of the work they put in to everything leading up to and during nationals," she said. "They handled everything that was thrown at them with grace."
Lion Line has placed in the top three in both Open Hip Hop and Open Jazz for five straight years. The most recent national title, the seventh in program history, came in 2017 when they won the Open Jazz division.
