Lion Line finished third in Open Hip Hop and ninth in Open Jazz at the 2022 UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team Championships January 15-16 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

The Lindenwood dance team began competition on Saturday and performed solidly in the semifinals to advance, earning an event score of 88.8116 to sit in second place, under a point behind West Chester University in first, but only about a third of a point ahead of Stockton University in third.  Lion Line improved its performance in the finals on Sunday, posting a score of 89.4783, but the Ospreys improved just a bit more to edge Lindenwood by a mere 0.0579 points to overtake second.  West Chester held its position to win the national title, while Westfield State University landed in fourth place, just under three points behind the Lions.

Earlier in the weekend, Lion Line became one of 10 teams to advance to the finals in Open Jazz.  The Lions earned a score of 88.6087 to sit in 10^th place in a field of 20 squads after the semifinals.  In a tightly packed competition, just over one point separated fifth from 10^th, with Minnesota State – Mankato holding the lead.  In the finals, Lion Line posted a score of 88.8551 and moved up to ninth in the standings, finishing only 1.0724 points behind the College of St. Benedict in fifth.  The Mavericks maintained their position to win the title, finishing over two points ahead of St. Cloud University in second.

Lion Line was attempting to repeat as a double champion after claiming both the Open Jazz and Open Hip Hop titles at the 2021 championships, earning the eighth and ninth crowns in program history.   Lion Line previously captured Open Hip Hop titles in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013, and won Open Jazz championships in 2015 and 2017.
