Annika Asplundh stopped 38-of-40 Nittany Lion shots.
GAME OVERVIEW
The opening period of the season was a back and forth battle, seeing each team have three power-play opportunities. Penn State scored the opening goal of the contest on the man advantage just before the mid-way point of the first 20-minutes of play. Lindenwood pushed back with an offensive surge, but was unable to put one in the back of the net. Lindenwood had 17 shots, 10 of which were on goal in the opening frame.
Penn State came out of the intermission hot with the first twelve shots of the second period, one of which found its way in the back of the net to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead. Lindenwood once again put on the pressure after the goal, but were unable to score, seeing the Nittany Lions carry a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
Asplundh kept the Lions in the game stopping all 14 shots in the final period, but the Nittany Lions would put the game away with a late empty netter, giving Penn State a 3-0 victory.
