The women's ACHA hockey team earned a two-game series sweep with a 5-0 shutout of Maryville Sunday evening at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

The Lions put 21 shots on goal in the opening period, but could not get one past the Saints netminder and the first 20 minutes ended with no score. That changed quickly in the second when
Kim Turcotte split the pipes just 13-seconds into the period on an unassisted play to give Lindenwood a 1-0 lead.
Dakota McAlpine increased the margin to two when she slipped the puck into the net on a backhanded wrap-around at the 14:41 mark with help from
Risa Shatford.
Lindenwood carried a 2-0 lead into the third, but Maryville was still within striking distance until a flurry of three goals within a 65-second span sealed the victory for the Lions. It all started after the Saints were called for tripping at 9:27. Lindenwood only needed 42 seconds to capitalize.
Lindsay Gillis sounded the horn at 10:09 on a power play goal set up by
Tessa O'Connor and McAlpine. Just 18-seconds later, Shatford tapped the puck past the line on the left side of the cage after finding a rebound from a
Marissa Delry shot that was created from a McAlpine pass. Moments later,
Nikki Lillies and Mackenzie Drost combined to get the puck on net, which created a scramble in the crease. Delry found the loose change and deposited a backhand shot at the 11:14 mark to give the Lions a 5-0 lead, one that they maintained for the rest of the game.
Lindenwood outshot Maryville 57-18 and
Emily McDonald stopped all 18 pucks she faced to earn the shutout win in goal. The Lions improved to 2-0 in the young season. Lindenwood will face its first road test and Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) conference action of the season with a trip to face Midland University January 16-17. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and at 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Sidner Arena in Fremont, Nebraska.
